What is SKINVIVE™ by JUVÉDERM ®?
Approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in May of this year, SKINVIVE is a modified hyaluronic acid gel that is injected right below the skin to improve facial skin smoothness of the cheeks in adults over the age of 21. Hyaluronic acid (HA) naturally declines with time, influenced by aging and environmental factors such as sun exposure. SKINVIVE effectively addresses this decline by explicitly targeting the changes in skin texture and combating dullness.
The first of its kind in the U.S., it has been shown to increase the skin’s moisture content, allowing the skin on the cheeks to become smoother, softer, and more hydrated. This increased hydration will also improve the appearance of fine lines in that area. While it is considered an injectable since the hyaluronic acid is delivered intradermally, it does not change the shape or volume of your face as fillers do. Results last six months, at which time you may get another treatment to maintain the results.
Who is a Candidate for SKINVIVE?
SKINVIVE works on all skin types but consult with your Board-Certified Dermatologist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This product is not for patients who are allergic to lidocaine, hyaluronic acid, or the Gram-positive bacterial proteins used in SKINVIVE.
What to Expect During and After Your Treatment
After your consultation with your Provider to ensure that SKINVIVE is right for you, the actual procedure will not take long. It is a treatment you may even schedule during your lunch break. Multiple microdroplet injections are used by your Provider on your cheeks. At that time, your Provider will give you instructions for your aftercare. Some redness is normal on the injection sites but typically disappears after a few hours.
We do recommend that you minimize strenuous exercise after your treatment, as well as exposure to sun or heat for the first 24 hours.
