Warts are growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They are very common, particularly in school-age children. Warts can spread by direct contact to other parts of the body, or to other people. They are painless unless they appear on the soles of your feet or under finger and toenails.

Types of Warts

Common Warts

Common warts typically appear on fingers and toes. They have a grayish color, are round, and protrude outward.

Plantar Warts

Plantar warts grow on the heels or soles of feet. While most warts grow out of the skin, these warts grow into the skin. They will look like an indent in the skin surrounded by hardened skin.

Flat Warts

As their name suggests, flat warts are flat rather than rounded. This often makes them harder to detect. They can appear yellow, brown, or pink. These warts also typically grow on the face, hands, and thighs.

Filiform Warts

Filiform warts form around the mouth, nose, or chin. These warts are typically small, skin-colored, and often have a cone-like structure.

Periungual Warts

Periungual warts grow underneath fingernails and toenails causing discomfort. They are skin-colored and appear in clusters described as looking like cauliflower.

After examining your skin, our Dermatologists will suggest the treatment best suited for your case. These treatments may include occlusion (covering the affected area with a bandage or strip of tape), over-the-counter medications, cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery, salicylic acids, or prescription medications.
