Dr. Whitney Hovenic is a Double Board-Certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-Trained Mohs Micrographic Surgeon dedicated to advancing skin cancer prevention, surgical excellence, and patient education. She is one of only five fellowship-trained, board-certified Mohs surgeons in Northern Nevada and specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery, high-risk skin cancer management, reconstructive surgery, lasers, and cosmetic treatments that improve skin health while helping patients feel confident in their own skin.

A California native, Dr. Hovenic earned her medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine before completing her dermatology residency at the University of Missouri. She went on to complete a fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine, where she received advanced training in skin cancer surgery, facial reconstruction, lasers, and cosmetic dermatology.

Driven by the belief that the best way to treat skin cancer is to prevent it, Dr. Hovenic founded and served as the first president of the Nevada Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, helping strengthen collaboration and advocacy for dermatologic care throughout the state. She is passionate about increasing access to skin cancer education and early detection and has led numerous community initiatives focused on prevention. She is also actively involved in the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the Skin Cancer Foundation.

When she’s not caring for patients or working to improve skin cancer awareness, Dr. Hovenic enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters exploring the Reno-Tahoe region. Whether skiing, hiking, traveling, or simply enjoying the outdoors, she believes healthy skin should empower people to live life to the fullest.
