Dr. Zumwalt was born and raised in Paradise, California, a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada where he developed a love for the outdoors. After completing his undergraduate studies in Biology at Pacific Union College, a beautiful small Christian college in the Napa Valley, he moved to Southern California to complete his medical school and dermatology residency training at Loma Linda University. To pursue his passion of treating advanced skin cancers, Dr. Zumwalt went on to complete his Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship Training at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla.
During his Mohs fellowship, Dr. Zumwalt had the privilege to train under the direction of Hugh Greenway, MD who is a past fellow of Dr. Frederick Mohs, the original pioneer of the Mohs surgical technique. Dr. Zumwalt participated in over 1000 Mohs surgical procedures during his fellowship training which included treating many rare and extensive cutaneous malignancies. At Scripps, Dr. Zumwalt also trained with plastic, head and neck, oculoplastic and hand surgeons. He learned advanced reconstruction techniques and received extensive cosmetic training from spending time with Vic Ross, MD who is world-renowned for his laser expertise.
Dr. Zumwalt spends his free time enjoying the outdoors with his wife Jessica and their son. Some of his hobbies include: Mountain biking, hiking, snow skiing, camping, photography, dirt biking, snowmobiling, traveling, and spending time with his family’s Siberian husky.
