Born in Natchitoches, Louisiana, John completed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. He received a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. His impetus for becoming a physician assistant was his passion for helping others and the opportunity to study Dermatology.

After graduating from Louisiana State University Health Science Center Physician Assistant Program in 2001, he worked for the Dermatology department at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. John then completed a Dermatology Physician Assistant fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern. He practiced Medical Dermatology for five years in Frisco, Texas and eight years in Vancouver, Washington.

His primary Dermatologic interest lies in evaluating skin lesions and rashes using dermoscopy. Dermoscopy permits examination of the skin unimpeded by the reflection of incident light. He believes in an evidence-based approach to medicine and outside of work enjoys spending time with his family and furry friends.
