Microneedling

The Skin Institute at Skin Cancer & Dermatology Institute provides microneedling treatments to patients looking for a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that helps minimize the signs of aging, improve the appearance of acne scars, and rejuvenate aging skin.

Often referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, microneedling is a technique that creates micro-injuries into the skin’s surface, causing an increase in collagen production. This is a non-invasive treatment that involves using a device to create tiny holes in the skin’s surface, followed by the application of a topical product directly onto the surface for a deeper level of absorption and penetration into the skin.

The microneedling process opens up the skin and allows it to better absorb products into a deeper level of the skin, thus helping with the rejuvenation process and removal of acne scars, sunspots, melasma, wrinkles, and stretch marks.

Microneedling is used to improve skin tone and texture, treating the appearance of scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and pigmentation marks.

At The Skin Institute at SCDI, we will help you determine the best skin care and treatment plan and if microneedling might be an ideal treatment based on your areas of concern.

SkinPen®

SkinPen® by Bellus Medical is the first microneedling device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars.

It can help improve your appearance with as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart.

What Should I Expect During Microneedling Treatment?

An experienced Provider will first have an in-depth consultation with you to understand your concerns, goals, and determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs.

A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area prior to microneedling. Treatment may take 15-45 minutes depending on the body surfaces treated.

Products can be applied post-treatment to enhance absorption into the skin. Speak with your Cosmetic Dermatology expert to learn more about your options to further enhance your results.

After your treatment, you will be provided with post-care instructions and should be able to resume most of your normal activities the next day.

What Areas Can Be Treated with Microneedling?

The best and most common areas for treatment are:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Décolleté (Low neckline)
  • Abdomen

Is There Any Downtime with Microneedling?

Recovery time is minimal, but it is best to allow yourself time to heal. Patients are normally able to resume back to normal activities the next day but may look like they have a sunburn. Occasionally there is some bruising following the procedure.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Results vary per patient, but you will notice improvement with a single procedure. Some patients may only need one treatment, but on average you will need 3-6 treatments approximately 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. It is recommended to repeat the treatment once a year for maintenance and yearly rejuvenation.
